In 1979, Michael A. Hearn established his California law firm, the Law Offices of Michael A. Hearn.  Shortly thereafter, in the early 1980’s, Mr. Hearn became involved in numerous construction defect lawsuits and started to specialize in this area.  While initially, those types of claims centered around condominium projects, the practice has now expanded to virtually every type of structure, both residential and commercial, built in Southern California. 

For over thirty years, Mr. Hearn has now represented more than 250 multi-family communities, dozens of custom homes, numerous commercial buildings, numerous high rises, and even owners of raw land.  Mr. Hearn has represented these owners against various developers, contractors and government agencies for allegations of construction defects and soils movement.  Over the past ten years, Mr. Hearn has also become an industry leader in the prosecution of damages resulting from landslides.  Mr. Hearn has represented numerous homeowners against various government agencies because of these landslide activities, including cities such as San Diego, San Clemente, Dana Point, Anaheim, Anaheim Hills, Yorba Linda and Pomona.

In addition to the above, in 1999, Mr. Hearn was one of the founding partners of a new law firm in Denver, Colorado, McKenzie, Rhody and Hearn (www.mrhllc.com) .  Over the past eleven years, that firm has specialized in representing homeowners and business owners against the original builders and developers for construction defects and soils related cases.  That firm has now represented more than 100 multi-family projects, as well as numerous single-family and custom homes, commercial projects and high rises in downtown Denver. 

Mr. Hearn has been an invited panelist for legal workshops sponsored by the West Coast Casualty Company, Community Association Institute, Southern California Defense Counsel, numerous mediation services, insurance carriers, professional organizations, and many management companies.  He has authored articles related to construction defect litigation for both national and local media and has been active in drafting new legislation regarding this issue in both California and Colorado. 

Mr. Hearn earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Delaware in 1974, and received his Juris Doctorate from Western State University College of Law in 1979.
